Father's Day

Today is Father's Day and it's been a good day to enjoy life. A good weekend, really. Have I mentioned how much I love summer? I did Skip's Run this morning (a memorial 4 mile run that commemorates a father who passed away from brain cancer). All the proceeds go to the cancer center at DHMC. I did it last year but my time this year was better. I've been healthier and training more and it showed. I don't have an official time yet but I feel I averaged a 10 minute mile. Dayner's came to cheer me on (she's home now after 2 weeks of adventures in Memphis). I just tagged myself in my sexy finish line photo. I've been hanging out at home since with X trying to keep my house cool. It broke 90 and it was pretty hot before the run even started. It's been a stuffies kind of day. Yesterday was, too. Up until I went to Ctown to hang out at the Goss'. I got caught up on all the Charest drama and we watched funny vines.

May 8 was Mother's Day and it had a rocky start when I happened to come upon Pete's facebook post about Granny possibly having a heart attack. He called to wish her a happy Mother's Day just as the ambulance crew was there picking her up. She was short of breath and diaphoretic. I continued to get ready after talking to Pete and headed to Claremont for brunch at the Cantina with everybody. I was prepared to head to the hospital but didn't need to, thankfully. Granny was worked up in the ER at Springfield and turns out, after hearing from Pete, that it didnt appear to be a heart attack. Phew. I spent the rest of the day with the fam (played with Simone, went out for ice cream, hung out at Merm's, and got Chinese food for dinner) and got to talk to Granny right before she was discharged home. She needed to see a cardiologist and to be evaluated for a pacemaker. I was supposed to go see her the previous night but we decided to reschedule because she had hurt her shoulder lifting groceries and she wasn't feeling up to par. I would have felt terrible and guilty if something more serious had happened. The next Saturday, I headed over to visit for the evening and grabbed a pizza on the way. Of course, we played Aggravation. Sherry came up for a visit too so we just hung out with Cora, drank cocktails and ate pizza and chocolate cake. Fast forward to the day after my birthday. I'm at work and I get a text from Pete. Granny has passed out, hit her head, and it at Springfield again. She ended up getting a DHART ride to the CVCC where she had a temporary pacemaker placed pretty much as soon as she landed in her room. She was in complete heart block. The doc who placed it told me it got a little dicey during the procedure because she had long pauses and would not have survived without this intervention. Really scary. I scooted across the hall to see her right after and she was feeling much better. Amazing what a normal heart rate can do. The next day, she got her permanent pacemaker in EP 3 and she did very well. It continued and they disharged her Friday afternoon. Go Granny! Everyone who took care of her loved her and she felt like she received really good care. As a side note, Pete will be here July 3rd to the 13th. Party!

Memorial Day weekend could have been a long weekend but it wasn't. I was on call from Friday afternoon to Monday morning (my regular weekend obligation). I was expecting it to be bad because the previous weekend was but it wasn't. We didn't get called until noonish Saturday which was nice because the Fellow's roast was the night before. I was at work late but arrived just in time for our interventional fellows' roasts. Good times. 2 cases and a man-hating STEMI after dinner and 1 case Sunday morning. Now I'm good until the end of July, but hopefully I can get rid of it. I have places to go and people to see. It was nice to have Monday and Tuesday off after all that call. Really didn't do anything memorable, otherwise I'd remember it.

The following weekend, I went to the Jenkins recital to see Maddy perform. She is an impressive athlete...even more impressive is the fact that she did a solo performance at age 10. At that age, you could have promised me the world and I still wouldn't be able to do anything like that, Physically impossible. Joi was there, the first time I've seen her since the diagnosis. It was kind of awkward...I mean, what do you say? It's also hard because I just never developed a relationship with her like I did with Ashley's mom. Speaking of Ashley...she was there with Christina to watch Ava. I went to her house after to hang out.

So my birthday came and went. Another year older. I don't want to get older but I can't help but get excited when June rolls around. June is great for several reasons, but especially my birthday. My boss made me cake and brought it in on Monday (I have Tuesday's off) for everyone (he used to be a pastry chef). I had a lovely run after work Monday so I didn't have to Tuesday. I got to spend my birthday evening at Simone's end of preschool year concert. There was an ice cream social after and then we headed to New Socials for dinner. I got to see Christine after as she was sitting at the bar. I went to Ashley's after hanging out at Heather's for a little bit.

We had our 15 year high school reunion on the 11th. The evening party was at Arrowhead and it turned out to be fairly fun. Our float theme was Alice in Wonderland. I opted not to ride on the float for the parade for several reasons. It was early and I really didn't want to be in Ctown all day, nor did I want to drive back and forth twice. I also never helped build the float in any way, shape or form although I would have seriously considered it if I had been offered the hookah smoking caterpillar part. Whatevs. I was a little fashionably late (big surprise) but it was nice to catch up with people while getting drunk on cheap beer. Puffles came to pick my drunk ass up and I spent the night on her couch. Although, that was after a little jump start. I was a little hungover and tired the next day but I stuck around to hang out with Simone. I went to her swim lesson and we went to Rev for some delicious brunch. After that, I wasn't good for much of anything.

On that note, I'm going to finish leftover steak from Jesse's, courtesy of Boston Scientific, and go to bed. I've gotten some sun this weekend and I'm beat.
