Sweets-less January

I am officially halfway through the worst month of the year and it's even worse this year because I made the decision to forgo sweets until February. I proved to be a little out of control the second half of last year and was starting to gain weight which prompted this rather unpleasant initiative. I also wanted to see if I could actually do it and I have (it's been sucky and joyless) been successful so far. The urge and desire to devour a pint of ice cream is real but I've come this far and now I'm determined to make it 15 more days. I can do this. I have to. RESET. Anywho, this entry comes at the tail end of a badly needed quiet weekend. While at work Friday, my mom texted Denise and I to let us know Sheila had passed from cancer down in Florida. I had sensed she was not well so it wasn't a huge surprise but it was very sad to hear. As a result, my mom and I are texting again and we are planning to get together to start working things out. After creating a nice post about Sheila Saturday, I spent the rest of the day doing Saturday stuffies. I vacuumed my house, did a pile of dishes, started laundry, caught up with Sarg on the phone and took a laterplay Barre class. Yesterday, I ran errands (checked out the new dispensary in Woodstock), and went grocery shopping. I did computer stuffies which should have included this entry but I didn't feel like staying up late. Today, I had a therapy appointment with the EAP, made beef stew, and started the process of transitioning stuff to our new property management company. I ran out quickly to print and deliver a picture to Hannafords for Emilee's cake this weekend. I can call it a day once I finish this (finally), do a workout and more dirty dishes.

I last left off on a Saturday so the rest of that weekend went like this...I got off call at 0700 but the pager went off at 0530 so off to work I went until around 9. Once I got home, I made breakfast, watched a movie, took a nap, did a pile of dishes and some computer work. Monday, I vacuumed the house, ran errands, meal prepped, and did a living room workout.

The following weekend, I went to a Christmas party at the Dickersons but unfortunately, attendance was poor due to the weather and so many people losing power. It was still fun though with yummy food, ugly Christmas sweaters and Jingle Juice. Sunday, I vacuumed the house, did laundry and dishes, and took a laterplay barre class followed by a bubble bath. Monday, I ran errands and meal prepped.

The next weekend was Christmas, however, it really didn't feel much like it. I could have gone to Kristy's on the 23rd but I just wanted to stay home and it was a good thing I did because I ended up working all day on Christmas (thankfully we were not called in during the night). I did some laundry, dishes, vacuumed the house, a living room workout and finally used the pizza kit from work to make a pizza. Up until this year, Christmas has been emergency only but the powers at be decided to haul us in for stable patients. I half expected that to happen but it was still disappointing. I know I'm in the business of helping people and we want to get people out of the hospital and home to their families but isn't anything sacred anymore? Oh well, I've been doing Xmas call for years and that effectively ended my desire to take one for the team. On Monday, I ran errands and did a living room workout.

The following weekend was another holiday weekend, as we all know. Saturday, I vacuumed the house, did a living room workout then got ready to go to Ctown to hang with the Goss'. We made a bunch of apps for dinner, played games with M&C then spent the rest of the evening adult style in the basement. I was home by 10 but still awake (in bed) to ring in the new year with the girls. Sunday, I finished cleaning my bathroom and headed to Ludlow for the first time in years to see Cora. Giving her an illness is still very much on my mind but it was time (her estranged daughter committed suicide a few weeks prior) and as far as I know, she is fine. We had a nice time drinking whiskey and ginger, visiting with Diane, and just catching up overall. She made a nice roast pork dinner and pumpkin pie for dessert which I of course ate so technically my sweets-less January started on the second. It was nice to see her and also very nice to learn she is just as disgusted with Trump as I am. Monday, I did laundry, dishes, cleaned the laundry room, ran some errands, took down my Xmas decorations and did a living room workout.

Last weekend was super busy but I did manage to accomplish things. I felt a little off at work Friday but it never evolved into anything so away I went with all my plans. I got up Saturday, vacuumed my house and headed to Newbury for an appointment. I headed to Ctown after my appointment to pick up Simone for the rest of the weekend. I dropped off food at the shelter on the way...the girls decided they wanted me to do that instead of giving them presents. We got settled at home (she checked out my makeup stash) then we went out for some shopping at Target, the Paper Store, and the Powerhouse while we were waiting for our pizza order. We went to the movies after dinner to see Megan (it was a little more violent than I had anticipated) but good thing there comedic breaks...including a woman randomly screaming in the theater lol. We watched Wednesday and played Clueless before bed. In the morning, we relaxed, grabbed breakfast at Dunky's (after trying four aces) then headed to the aquatic center for some swimming. The Dickersons joined us but the environment was a little overwhelming for Lydibug so it was short lived. We did, however, end up leaving at the same time so they were able to give me some sweet gifts from her family (a picture blanket, framed pictures and a cat butt shower curtain hehe). I got Simone some McDonalds then we came back to my place to watch more Wednesday and play Clueless until it was time to go home. I wasn't good for much that evening but I did manage to start some laundry. Monday, I did dishes, starting making spaghetti sauce, had a lunch date with Denise at four aces then headed to Keene to finally get my Xander tattoo. I love it. Cyn missed my initial request so she gave me a discount. I grabbed some groceries on the way home, finished my sauce, and called it a day.

As of January 4th, my Dad has been gone 30 years.

Please check out Trump digital trading cards if you want a good laugh...that grifter is one of the most foul, disgusting human beings to ever exist.

I have officially reconnected with Betsy...hopefully we will be facetiming soon!

Until next time...
