Spring Is Never Coming

4.14

It’s mid-April and snow is in the forecast tonight. At this point it feels like Spring is never coming. Even though birds are chirping, the temps are still cold and they’re predicting a couple inches tonight. I’m not going to let it ruin my plans, however, it’ll change them a little bit. I’m bringing Chinese food to my mom’s then hanging out at Ashley’s with her and Jen. It’s Jen’s birthday eve so we are planning to laugh a lot and eat cake.  I haven’t been to the Goss household to hang out in over a month; since I was on vacation. I was supposed to go last Saturday but she forgot about plans for Lisa’s 40th so I ended up not doing a whole lot last weekend. Last Friday after work, I met Chhouen (haven’t seen him in years) for dinner at Jesse’s. He was home for a visit. I had a lot of apprehension about it but it turned out to be fine. Also, you know how I am about my Fridays. Last Saturday, I went to the made in NH Expo in Manchester with Dayna. It was at a convention center and had a bunch of vendors from the great state of NH. We just walked around, taste tested some food and booze and were home by 430ish with a pit stop in New London for coffee. Sunday, I was home until I went to Barre then the grocery store. Monday, I ran some errands, including going to Meeting House Restoration in Quechee where I had dropped off a bookcase my last day of vacation. I took the bookcase from Sherry before she moved because it belonged to our Dad. I’m getting it repaired, cleaned, and waxed for a lot cheaper than the original quote.

Speaking of vacation, I was on one the last entry I made. It turned out to be a pretty decent staycation. I still had most of the week to go so this is basically how I spent the rest of it: Tuesday, I did computer stuff and made lasagna rolls ups. Wednesday, I went snowshoeing with a delicious coffee drink from Lucky’s and caught up with Granny. Thursday, I picked up Cora and took her to Claremont on a few errands. Friday morning, I baked a coffee cake from a King Arthur Flour mix and was home the rest of the day, I think. Saturday was St. Patrick’s Day so I met Dayna and some of her peeps at Salt Hill in Leb for a few beers. Pretty sure I was home the rest of the day. Sunday, I spring cleaned my bedroom and went to Barre. Monday, I got my taxes done in Claremont and got ready to go back to work.

The following weekend, I was home Friday and Saturday doing stuffies. Sunday, I cleaned my bathroom and went to Barre. Monday, I had a Dentist appointment to do some preventive sealants on my teeth to prevent decay (covered by my insurance, of course). I took a little trip to Hops and Barley in Woodstock to grab some Sip of Sunshine. I was also looking for Waimea Waves. They were out but I ended up finding some at a store in Hartland (Mike’s, I think?).

The following weekend was Easter weekend. Again, I was home Friday and Saturday doing stuffies. I went to my mom’s for our standard Easter dinner (ham, scalloped potatoes, and green beans). As usual, it was yummy. Puffles made a carrot cake from scratch for dessert. We were missing Sherry (post move), Eric (school work), and Jeff…again. He did not come to Simone’s birthday party so, naturally, the topic came up. We ended up having a heated family discussion which was kind of tied to the previous talk that was given to us (me, Heather, and Denise) at the birthday party. As siblings, we need to communicate better amongst ourselves (instead of going to mom), whether it’s about every day stuff or things that are bothering us. At this point, we are worried about why Jeff has stopped coming to family functions without saying a word to anyone, so, the following evening, I decide to reach out. His response included things like being sick of family stuff and not wanting people to pencil in events for him on the weekend. Basically, a giant slap in the face through the phone. It was very hurtful and I’m just fucking angry. Maybe someday he’ll know what I think of him but for now, its best just not to say anything at all and just make time for people who care and make the effort to be in your life. I’m too old for this shit. Other than that, Easter was fun. Not as warm as I was hoping, but Simone and I still did a loop around the block.

Last night, I brought take out from China Station to ctown and had dinner with my mom and Ray. I spent the rest of the night until almost midnight (weather held off) hanging out with Ashley (occasionally Adam), and Jen. We just chatted, laughed, and played charade like games through an app on Ashley’s phone. It was Jen’s birthday eve so we also had cheesecake. It was starting to rain as I was leaving and it was below 30 degrees so I just went slow and ended up driving behind a truck salting the last half. Today, I slept in, did stuffies, went to Barre, and grocery shopped. I’m currently awaiting the season finale of TWD…I’ve had enough of Negan. Let’s get this over with. Tomorrow, I’m getting the new iphone 8.

Overall, work has been ok since returning from vacation. It’s been busy and I’m tired. Two weeks ago, I survived two week night calls in a row…the second night we came in early for a guy that lives down the street from me. I shouldn’t have gotten in the shower after the ambulance and cops went screaming past my neighborhood. I’m not looking forward to this week because I have a charge shift and I’m actually needed in echo on Thursday.

I’ve been listening to 90’s hip/hop a fair amount lately…tried A Tribe Called Quest on Pandora today and so far it’s been good stuff.
