Winter Staycation

I’m sitting at the dealership at the moment at my little cubicle of choice getting my car serviced and hopefully my exhaust fixed as well. I got into my car last Saturday to go in for a call case and something had happened to it since that morning (it's been obnoxious and embarrassing). This service will be about an hour and I've managed to procrastinate the first 30 minutes...shocker. Let's see what I can get done with minimal interruptions. I'm on staycation this week and it's been glorious so far. I started a day early because no one was off Friday so I asked for it off Thursday morning. Not only was it great to sleep in and not go to work but I ended up missing a certain patient who came through the lab, I think. It was meant to be. Kind of weird as I rarely ask for last minute days off. I ended up going to Barre express then being lazy for the rest of the day. I was going to go snowshoeing but ended up watching a few Breaking Bad episodes with Xander instead. Saturday morning, I got up and drove to my mom's. We drove down to Worcester to help move some things and say good-bye to Sherry. She and Chip are leaving this morning for Portland, OR with whatever fits in her car. Starting over in a desirable city with a new job and hopefully a decent temporary living situation and new romantic interest. I took home a small bookcase (needs work) that belonged to Daddy, and an Ikea mirror and clothes rack. I started looking through pictures at my Moms for something with my Dad's handwriting but didn't find anything. I then went to dinner with my Mom and Ray at Revolution and Ashley ended up joining us. I hung out with her after dinner until about 11ish. Today, I'm running some errands when I'm done and heading to Ctown for a dinner and movie date with Simone. Finally using the free passes I got around Xmas time. It's supposed to snow tomorrow (snowshoeing!) and one other day this week I'll probably spend some time with Cora. The rest of my time off, I'll figure it out as I go. Always something to do.

I think I covered most of the weekend of Feb. 9th in my last entry. I got my teeth cleaned on the 12th with another appointment coming up this month to do some preventive works on some weak spots. The following Saturday (the 17th), I had a date with some coworkers at the shooting range up behind Wal-Mart. Friedy had recently bought a gun and shot it for the first time. Archie, Flynny, and Adam were there. We shot our handguns then did some skeet shooting with shotguns. I'm better with my handgun. Since then, I've acquired ear muffs, eye protection, and cleaning supplies for this new occasional hobby of mine (kind of necessary so I don't panic if I'm in a bad situation). I had to be back at my car by 4 because I covered call for Eric until Sunday morning. Did end up going in for a quick diagnostic case that evening but was quiet otherwise. Sunday was quiet so I went to afternoon Barre.

The following weekend was pretty quiet as well. Saturday evening, I hung out with Dayna and her APD peeps at Salt Hill. I love how good I feel these days after only one beer. Monday, I finally went in for a cut and partial foil after not doing anything to my hair since before my Italy trip. I feel much better now but disappointed overall at the quality of my hair and probably will be for the rest of my life. Most days, when I look in the mirror, all I see are the things I dislike about myself. Roseanne was there as I was checking out to follow in my chair at the salon.

Last weekend was a little rough as I was on call from Friday to Sunday morning. Normally would have been the whole weekend but (thankfully) I got rid of Sunday for Simone's birthday. It was quiet up until 2 Saturday afternoon as I was halfway through the pilot episode of Breaking Bad. I had gotten up earlier to go to an Impella inservice at Murphy's with Melissa which turned out to be cancelled. Archie showed up too. It wasn't clear that it was cancelled so that was frustrating, especially since we had no "elective" Saturday morning cases to do due to bed issues. I hate poor communication and when people waste my time. Anywho, I had a lot of apprehension going into this call weekend due to my partner and who the call doc was. I arrived for this afternoon call case and immediately found out it was going to be a walk in the park; I had hoped for garden variety call cases. But no, it turned out to be this 8 hour long stressful thrash with a partner who was ill-prepared for a case of this magnitude. He coded a few times and we placed Impella. I won't go into detail because I'm trying to let it go, but, I will say that the doc did remarkably well considering the circumstances and the patient made it to the unit alive. We ended up leaving around 11 and I showered and ate dinner before trying to get some sleep. It was pretty restless and emotional but we didn't come back in. Sunday's call team had it even worse as they did 2 STEMI's then followed with our guy as a bring back. Tufts wanted a Swan floated before he could be shipped out and was doing ok until then. He coded a couple more times in the lab then eventually passed later on that night in the unit. Very sad. The next day, I met the fam for Simone's birthday brunch at the Cantina. Sherry and Jeff were missing. Ice cream cake and presents at my Mom's after plus visiting/playtime. I stopped and visited with Emilee and the kids (Eli lost his battle with cancer on the 28th) then Ashley before going home.

Last weekend was exhausting (throw in a cath lab death Wednesday) and this staycation is just what I need. I need a break from death. I wish Ross could have been here Saturday but such is life. He couldn't get the time off I guess. Sunny California would be nice but I do love staycations.

Simone and I had a movie and dinner date last night. We went to see Peter Rabbit (very cute) then followed with din din at Tremont. Good times.
