Labor Day

I hate the end of summer. That is all.

On the 9th, I noticed for the first time that Xander's left pupil is smaller than the other and that inner eyelid is partially closed. When I pet him, that eye closes first first. Unequal pupils is bad news for humans so I took him to the vet first thing on the 11th. He saw a new vet who stained his eye to look for scratches and checked pressures in both eyes (higher end of normal). Nothing obvious, no signs of infection or pain. Next step was blood work. Brought him in on the 24th for labs and they came back negative. He did, however, howl from the back room while they were restraining him...a sound I've never heard come out of him. Scared the crap out of me; I didn't want to believe it was my sweet baby. He ended up making Dr. Ketchum bleed with a back claw. They did a CBC, BMP, toxoplasmosis screen, and FIV. The next step would be some sort of imaging study; but, in the meantime, I'm just watching him. Other than what seems like compromised hearing, he seems fine. I know he's not going to be here forever, but I need that to happen at least another 10 years from now as he has a special place in my heart. Thinking about it even more now that my mom had to let go of Sammy recently.

On the 15th, I went to Tilton with Emilee and the kids for school shopping. My uncle Pete was east from the 13th or so of August for about a week to help Granny move to her new apartment in Ludlow. We all headed over to help (sans Eric and Faith), devour a big Sunday spaghetti dinner, and visit. It was pretty relaxed and fun except for some minor Cora outbursts (yikes). Should have taken nice pictures.

My second (!) summer staycation began after work on the 21st. It was pretty relaxing and uneventful. Ashley came over with the kids the first Sunday and cleaned my house. She was more thorough than I was expecting and accomplished a lot in just a few hours. After a bit, the kids were getting bored so I took them to the park for a little while then we got ice cream treats. Was supposed to go to the beach Tues but the weather ended up being crappy. I ended up heading to Ctown instead (with a little detour to Singleton's to pick up my $40 lol) to hang out with H and S. We did some errands, had dindin and played with play dough. Simone's first day of preschool was on the 27th. She loves it. Friday was a third attempt at hanging out with an old acquaintance but was cancelled due to a family member's car trouble. This, after being forgotten twice. By now, you're asking yourself why. I should too. Anyways. Saturday, I went to a coworker's party at a camp on a lake and it ended up being pretty fun. Mingled, had some drinks, played badminton, and went out on the lake in a little inflatable motor boat. I should spend more time in front of a camp fire. I ended my staycation in ctown by going to brunch with H&S and hiking to the top of Arrowhead.

So far, work has been pretty good off orientation. Haven't had to deal with anything scary yet. Call is terrifying...luckily I have money-hungry coworkers who offer to take it from me with any prompting. Tuesdays are my day off now so I'm just finishing up a 4 day weekend due to the holiday. A mini-staycation...although not as satisfying as my OR staycations. Speaking of...that place is going to shit. And Karl is leaving. WTF. I went to bed Friday after cancelling plans. Saturday, I went to the Claremont History Museum and Burlington after much vacillation. I finally met up with someone for a few beers and coversation. It ended up being relaxed and fun, despite almost running out of gas on the way home. Sunday, we did Lou's and picked some hops (ok, maybe I picked 1) and went to trivia. I spent most of yesterday watching the Walking Dead. Maybe I'm a little addicted now. Today, I'm doing the usual and getting ready for work tomorrow. 3 days, no call, weekend again. Bring it on. I need to work less.
