Summer Time and the Livin's Easy

My favorite month of the year (June) has come and gone in a flash and we're almost halfway through July. Why does the summer have to go by so fast? Why can't winter go by this quickly? Yuck. Speaking of June, it started off with a bang setting sail for Bermuda from Boston aboard the Norwegian Dawn. Good times had by all. A lot more relaxing than our previous cruise with less people and only one destination. We did lots of drinking, eating, sightseeing, shopping, and just hanging out. I also had a birthday so it was a nice way to celebrate turning 29 although it felt odd not being home on my birthday. In terms of the ship and food, I think I prefer Royal Caribbean but the vacation as a whole was better because I didn't feel like I needed a vacation from my vacation when I got home. Thankfully, I still had four days before going back to work. Two of those days I spent in Mont Vernon with Danielle and Madison poolside and on the seacoast.

The day I got back from the cruise I got a birthday phone call from Caligram and she also happened to mention she was coming east for two weeks the following Wednesday! I knew she was planning a visit depending on Pete's schedule but I didn't realize dates were set in stone and so soon. It was a lovely two weeks with family stuff going on on the weekends and one weekday trip over to Cora's apartment in Ludlow. Those ladies are so down to earth and cool; sometimes I still can't believe the way life happened and that we interact now as if those years we didn't know each other ever existed. I hope to make a visit to California later this year or early next year. Travel is hard on Caligram and who knows if or when she'll make another trip out here.

Speaking of visiting people, Ross is here (solo-style) for his 20th high school reunion. He flew in Tuesday for a week. We got to see him Wednesday for dinner in Claremont. He's lost weight and looks good! I really wish he lived closer. We're having a big family dinner in Claremont on Sunday with lots of food, specifically cake and ice cream. Cora is even coming; it'll be so nice for Ross to meet her. Too bad Caligram couldn't be here also.

I guess I'm getting bored of this blog because I just switched over to facebook and got lost for a little while. Oh well. On another note, I must say that I'm shocked this computer still functions. I'm in bed at the moment and its so hot I can feel the heat through layers of blankets. The same goes for my ipod. It's old but still functions. I did, however, leave it behind during my run today (just completed week 2 of "couch to 5k") because I'm finally realizing how cumbersome it is to jog with that thing strapped to my arm. Siiiigh. I need new everything. I need a smartphone. A new blender. A kindle would be nice, too. Why am I so behind the times?

Alright, I must retire to my depressing book and eventual sleep. I am headed to Concord tomorrow to watch Kendall perform in the Tempest for her Shakespeare for Performance class at St. Pauls. Yup, that's right. It doesn't feel so long ago that I was there but it's been 12 years. She is having a completely different experience though...she's having a blast and probably will not want to come home. Despite how hard that summer was for me, I do look back with positive sentiments, nostalgia, and strong emotions. It was powerful.
