You must be wondering what the title of this entry means. Well, it has two meanings...one being that it's been a snowy start to winter and I have a feeling that it's going to be long and rough. Second, HR is officially investigating my boss and the atmosphere of the lab is not going to be the same regardless of the outcome. A week before Thanksgiving, Trista went to Jimmy as our unofficial spokesperson with our concerns and Jimmy got HR involved. I shared my experiences 2 days ago and apparently, they will be talking to several other people. I really don't want to go into too much detail as this consumes most of my waking thoughts. Basically, this is a big deal and the outcome will determine whether I need to move on or not. I no longer can stand the sight of him and it's even worse now that he knows he's being investigated and I can't feel this way at my job. He is quiet and cold. I imagine by the time I write again, there will be more to say.
Back to the rest of my life. I'm on call now and I hope I get to sleep tonight. I've been doing stuffies at home today and am trying to completely recover from whatever virus took over my body last week. I woke up Thanksgiving morning with a sore throat and by the time bedtime rolled around, I was feeling crappy and knew I wasn't going to win. I stayed home Friday (was supposed to be on call Friday night) and Saturday and mucked through call Sunday into Monday morning. Luckily it wasn't bad. Thanksgiving was nice, despite the sore throat. Denise and Eric hosted. There was a large array of snacks and cocktails to drink before dinner was ready. Ray came from Alstead to spend the day with us. We otherwise just hung out, chatted, and watched movies. I got home at a decent time for once although it didn't matter as I stayed in bed until 1 the next afternoon. A suspicious day to be sick but beggers can't be choosers.
I've survived the month or so since returning to work after my October vacation. Now, I'm counting down the days until time off for Christmas and New Years. 3 more weeks! The return and weeks leading up to this investigation have been fairly uneventful. The first weekend in November, I was home Friday and Saturday. Sunday, I was on call during the day. I covered for Tara so she could recover from the concussion she got in room 2. On Monday, I got the ball rolling with my condo insurance claim by meeting with the adjuster here. I've since found out the are going to cover me for about half of what I paid the contractor. Very happy!
The second weekend in November took me to Burlington, MA for my annual girls weekend with Brandi and Laura. I grabbed them at the hotel and we started with lunch at the sports bar across from Jenny Boston boutique. We spent a couple hours at the mall and relaxed at the hotel (Hilton Garden Inn) before going to dinner at an Italian restaurant...blanking on the name. Went back to the hotel for PJ and facial mask time. It took me forever to fall asleep (shocker) so I woke up exhausted. We checked out, went to breakfast, and killed some time at Kohl's before a nail salon appointment. We parted ways after having cheesecake for lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. The rest of Sunday was pretty low key and Monday was spent doing stuffies. A pest control guy came (it's a different person every time) as part of my quarterly program and he is the first one to give me an educated guess as to where the mice might be getting into my house. They've done all they can do so he recommended calling a contractor to see what can be done about those spots. I guess I'll just set my insurance money aside for this and future projects. I still really want a bathtub. And I'm feeling extra vulnerable (you never know what people are truly capable of) these days so I really should invest in some sort of home monitoring system.
The third weekend in November, I was home except for Saturday. Now this will be a test to see who stills reads this and if so, will anyone say anything to me? I hope not because I'm not asking for any opinions. After my Barre class, I went to Cynthia's studio in Keene and got my first tattoo. It is the word love in my Dad's handwriting and it came out exactly how I wanted it to. She did it well and super fast to boot. It's simple, small, black, and meaningful. Over my ribs on the left side. I've been thinking about it for a while and I'm glad I finally did it. Luckily, the timing was good and I was able to spend the rest of the day visiting with the Hubbard family. It was nice to catch up with them as it had been just over a year since I had last been down. I also got to see Becky and her family too. It was really nice. Oddly enough, this sickness reared it's ugly head less than a week after this visit and the last time I was sick happened within days of our last visit. A coincidence? Or maybe they have highly advanced bugs due to how clean they keep their house. I'll have to test this theory the next time I visit.
It's almost midnight so I suppose I'll wrap this up and try to get some sleep. G'night.
