April Fool's Snow Storm

April 1st

It's April Fool's Day and this snow storm that just finished dumping a foot is no joke. I'm also on call this entire weekend so I'm taking this opportunity to stay ahead of the game and write a little bit here. I was on staycation last week therefore there is a little bit more to record. So far, the pager has been silent, but the weekend is young. Plus Thursday and Friday have been busy, especially Thursday. Turned out to be a 12 hour day as the second STEMI of the day was very sick. A 46 yo lady, heavy smoker, but relatively healthy. We cooled her with Arctic Sun and put an Impella in and sent her to the unit with multiple pressors running. Very sad, 3VD, if she's still alive, she's in Boston getting worked up for further treatment.

My vacation began on the evening of St. Patrick's Day and I elected to go home and spend it like I do every Friday night. At this point in my life, I'd rather gouge my eyeballs out than go to Salt Hill on St. Patrick's Day, on a Friday night. Hell no. Staycations are my favorite, especially when they begin with Spaghetti Friday and no irritating bodies around me. I stayed home Saturday, too. Cleaned my bathroom. Sunday, I was home as well, except for a trip to the grocery store. Monday, I made a breakfast pie and a no bake chocolate peanut butter cheesecake in the evening (which I took to Ashley's the following night). I also signed up for a Handgun 101 class in Epping. Tuesday morning, I used my massage gift card from Xmas and got probably the best massage I've ever gotten. Of course, I couldn't leave Newport without a grinder from Coronis'. Wednesday, I made spaghetti sauce. Thursday, I got a bunch of car insurance quotes (so not fun). Friday, I made a pit stop at the Ultimate Bath Store in Leb before heading to Ludlow to spend the night with Granny. I got there around 4ish and they were in Cora's apartment playing Aggravation and starting cocktails. We played a few games then we migrated down to Granny's for blended margaritas and chit chat. She made delicious enchiladas for dinner with rice and black beans, preceded with chips and homemade guacamole. So good. Ended the night with more Aggravation. I hung out for a bit in the morning; Granny made coffee, bacon, and blueberry waffles in her waffle maker. Yum! I got ready then headed to Claremont (to pick up Simone for our first slumber party at my house. We got some Dazzle cupcakes, went to Tip/Top Pottery, and were up until 1230 watching movies and playing Sega, with my drum kit, Xander, and pretty much everything in sight came out of it's respective storage places (which spawned various games and activities). She spent the majority of the night in my gymnastics recital costume from high school (which went home with her the next day), and my chanel sparkly eyeshadow. We got up around 730 and continued to play, stopping for a little bit to make strawberry scones from King Arthur Flour. We then got ready and spent a couple of fun hours at the Montshire and stopped at Molly's for lunch. I ordered Salmon and all Simone wanted was an apple. People around us probably thought I was starving her. At this point, we both were exhausted, so we headed back to my house to pack up and I got her home around 330...after some stalling. I cleaned up my house a little bit (did what remained the following day) then I was done for the night. I'm glad I took Monday off as I ended up spring cleaning my bedroom too. Tuesday, I bought my car insurance and plane ticket to Italy and got ready to go back to work. Got back into work out mode, too, starting with a Barre class where I was one of two students. Staycations are fantastic.

4.18.17

The rest of my call weekend was fairly uneventful. We were called in twice the entire weekend; around dinner time Saturday (I had dozed off) and 1 Sunday morning an hour after falling asleep. The first guy was a young guy from Canada who needed bypass and the second guy (odd) ended up not being a STEMI after taking pictures. I was able to watch the season 7 finale of the Walking Dead in its entirety and it was awesome. That Tuesday, I got some stuff done and headed to Claremont to watch Simone for a few hours as Dave had to work late. We colored, watched movies, played with legos, and played outside.

Last weekend, I made it a point to stay home and not do much of anything. The older I get, the more time for me I need. I worked out both days, set up and finally used my shop vac in the basement, assembled a new shelving unit and moved some stuff downstairs. Also went to trivia with Dayna and Jeff for the first time in a while. Last Tuesday, I got my laundry unit serviced through Sears. The guy fixed the washer lid (which doubled the original price) so now it locks when it's supposed to during the cycle. Was able to go to Barre class in the morning, ran some errands, and forced myself to use my elliptical in the evening (after a beer). This past weekend was Easter. I ran more errands Saturday and made a cake for Sunday, using my stand mixer for the first time. The mixing bowl had some dark, gritty film on it that I failed to wash off completely and it ruined my first batch of frosting. Had to make more frosting Sunday morning. My mom made the usual spiral ham, scalloped potatoes, and green beans Easter dinner. We were missing some people; Denise was sick (so Eric didn't come either) and Jeff had a migraine. I played with Simone, mostly; hide and seek with her eggs and we went for a walk after dinner. It was 80 degrees, sunny but windy. I stopped in at the Goss household for a little bit before going home.

Today is colder but sunny...ideal running conditions, according to my weather app. I guess I must get out there so I can drink a beer on my deck. Barre this morning was more challenging than usual so my legs should feel fantastic tomorrow. First, I must give Granny a call. I should plan a visit before Mother's Day. Wish me luck.
