I am taking advantage of this illness and subsequent time not spent at work (sad face...) and sitting down to finally update this blog and summarize the goings on of my life since 4/8. My how time flies when you have no self-discipline. As I sit here, it's hard to recall anything significant that happened during the rest of April, other than closing on my house Wed the 30th. A good day, happened faster than I thought. Took a carload over with Dayna then decided to be lazy for the rest of the day. Watched Pan's Labyrinth (a completely fucked up, depressing movie which I had seen before but didn't recall until after I started to watch it) and caught up with Sarg on the phone.
Sunday, May 4th (may the fourth be with you haha) was the big move in day. It was supposed to be the 3rd but Eric busted his feet so it was switched to the following day so Dave could help. Picked up the truck, coffee and doughnuts and went to work. My family is full of rock stars and the move went rather smoothly and quickly. My mom, Ray, Sherry, Denise, Dave, Heather, Simone, Jeff, and Dayna were able to help me move into my cute little home. I fed everyone pizza and had the evening to unpack my kitchen. Whatever packing material my mom had used to pack my kitchen stuff was lung seizing and I reacted to it for a few days...especially the first night. Xander was pretty needy following me around the first week or so but he's settled in quite nicely. I took a break from unpacking to have dinner at Marg's with some OR peeps on cinco de mayo.
May 11th was mother's day and we spent the day at my mom's helping to make raised beds in her backyard for gardening. They were built, filled and we hung out and ate the rest of the time. On the 17th, I took a trip to Manchester with the Goss family to Chuck E Cheese to celebrate the girls' birthdays earlier in the year. We had fun just hanging out, playing games, eating pizza. A place where a kid can be a kid lol I met Dayna in Concord that evening and we did some shopping and had dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings.
On the 30th, I headed to New London for a physical, stocked up on groceries for the weekend and went back home as Brandi was en route from Maine. We made dinner, drank a bottle of sparkling champagne, watched a movie and headed to bed. Laura came the following morning and we went down the road to get pedicures then to Lou's for breakfast. Did a little shopping then just hung out here until we felt hungry enough to stuff our faces with brick oven deliciousness. On a side note, Brandi after two sangrias is even more fun and amusing than she already is. We capped off the night with cannoli's and Steel Magnolias because Brandi had never seen the tear jerker. After leaving the next day, I took a nap then headed to Claremont to see Maddy's gymnastics recital.
The beginning of June, I finally got my electronic drum set assembled in my spare bedroom. I haven't begun practicing again but I will in good time. I haven't been good about using my time efficiently and I have little to no motivation with a lot of things. I moved but can no longer really use that as an excuse. I have a lot of things I'd like to do in this new house but it's not so much that it is preventing me from working on other things, namely running. This time last year I was doing so well with my running. I ran Skip's Run but am not at that point and I'm not sure where my motivation went. I suppose I can still aim for a half marathon in the fall if I start strong as soon as this sickness leaves my body (and I simultaneously kick the habit I picked up when I began this ICU journey). I've run enough this year to realize I have to make a choice; I can't do both.
Starting June 5th, I was scheduled for 3 night shifts, one night off, then 3 more night shifts. I was dreading it (but looking forward to the break from day shifts) because I didn't know how I was going to tolerate it. Surprisingly, I handled it pretty well and turned 31 to boot. Kind of sucked sleeping and working on my birthday but at least I got lots of messages and a chocolate peanut butter cake. So sinfully delicious. Speaking of work, I am nearing the end of my orientation. Probably will be buddying the beginning of July although I'm not sure how these sick days will affect it. It's gotten better but I still have serious doubts about my ability to handle things once I'm on my own. I'm going to be scared shitless coming off orientation.
After my last night shift, I took a nap, got up and got ready to go to Boston for the night. Dayna and I checked into the Midtown Hotel then headed to the House of Blues to see Stick Figure, the Green, Iration, and Rebelution. It was an awesome show (despite strange encounters with fucked up ppl) and we went to a bar afterwards in the Fenway area but decided to make a hasty escape back to the hotel for some food. We checked out by noon the next day and went to the north end for lunch and a trip to Mike's Pastry. We also took advantage of a sweet photo op with some Boston firefighters. Saturday morning, I got up early and headed down to the farm for a mini family reunion for Uncle David's 70th birthday. We picked up Jane from the airport on the way. We all visited, ate, and played games (softball, badminton, and the ever popular family favorite croquet. It was really fun getting to see everyone. I hope the group pictures came out decent. After a rough night in the hotel, I woke up sick. I didn't get home until about 7ish; I ate dinner and went to bed. Thankfully, I wasn't scheduled to work Monday but I may as well have because I had to call out sick Tues and Wed. Tomorrow is up in the air but I think I'm going to try to go in. I may regret it, we shall see.
Random asides: This entry is better than no entry. The Tribal Seeds' new album is awesome. Tribal Seeds station on Pandora is awesome. Why can't summer last forever? I belong in CA. Invisalign is a pain in my ass.
